The Peaks

It's my dream to make a hockey film. It's rare to see a hockey feature film that's serious and true to the sport. I want to make that film. My original idea was to write a script about how the jets came back and became insignificant within a decade and struggle to keep the franchise only to have someone save it. Unfortunately, the jets are already back. so i'm going to create my own team.

The Seattle Peaks. Created around the same time as the thrashers. The first couple years were prosperous, but a very irresponsible general manager made a lot of really stupid moves and the team never really had a star except for one, their captain from the beginning until 2 years before this story starts. Jason Rawski.

Jason Rawski is a lot like Trevor Linden. He wasn't the best at the sport, but he had a lot of heart and gave it his all in every game. The general manager threw a lot of money towards old rusty stars to try and bring star power to the team, but similar to the ranger sydrome, the stars faded and died in Seattle. Rawski never registered more then 70 points and always had a minus rating. But he was the only player to stick with the team for more then 3 years(stuck with it for 7 years.) He never got along with the gm and owner Andrew Gilbrovski, because Andrew knew fuck all about sports but he had a shit ton of money and invested it in these fading stars. On his 7th season Rawski got hit from behind into the boards and broke his neck and suffered a concussion. He wasn't resigned that year and retired. He became a coach for a minor league team.

Andrew Gilbrovski created the team in 2000 because he loved hockey and wanted to see it thrive in Seattle. When he got the team he traded away the first 3 years worth of draft picks for a high scoring incredibly expensive winger named Johnathan Grilveau who ended up breaking a leg in the first season and never recovering. Gilbrovski sunk tons of money on terrible decisions, signing goalie Trevor Richter to a 8 year 70 million year deal after 2 incredibly meh seasons. Trevor Richter is still the goalie, now 34. Hasn't won more then 30 games in a season and he has issues with his foot. Gilbrovski lost more then 200 million on the team and finally sold it to Grilveau.

So here is where we start the film, Grilveau just bought the team which just had one of the worst seasons ever in NHL history(12-65-5) Unfortunatly they traded away their first round pick for Colin Waynes. A calder winning center who won 2 cups with two different teams but failed to connect with the Peaks because of his cockyness. Grilveau interviews a few gm's and hears their pitches to fix the team, all of which are financial based and have a lot to do with spending to the cap, which Grilveau isn't willing to do. They go to Rawski and he gives them a simple pitch, let him be the coach and manage the team. Rawski's first move is to gather a group of aggressive young forwards(Chris Neil, Sean Avery, Brian Boyle)and and an experienced shut down defenseman(Micheal Rosival). He then switches the team from a defensive minded team to an aggressive offensive team.

At the start of the season Rawski makes a lot of big changes, he takes away the captaincy from Colin Waynes and gives it to the second longest player on the team(Rich Peverly). Colin Waynes makes some big whiney scenes until he gets cheap shotted and complains about it and the entire team turns their backs on him. Waynes then requests a trade and Rawski puts him on the trading block, but no one wants him. Half way through the season Rawski sees an opportunity to win with one of his players in the minors, someone just as good lemeiux, in fact they are related. Gabriel Scarlast managed to bring his team(that rawski coached) to the memorial cup the year before. Scarlast gets drafted this next season so Rawski decides to make the team lose on purpose. He also gets word from a young star that played with the peaks with Rawski until Gillbrovski traded him for another crap star(Micheal Grabner). At the halfway point the team is 10th in their conferance and the playoffs could possibly happen, but Rawski wants this team to win in the longterm so he proposes to the team that they lose on purpose so they can get the first round pick in Scarlast.

The small amount of fans left get annoyed with the play, and Grilveau gets mad at the idea as he loses a shitload of money. The last place position becomes determined by the last game, which is against the 29th place team. The team loses in an epic and slightly comedic fashion and in the offseason they get Grabner and Scarlast. They don't sign Waynes, but nobody else does either because of his poor play and terrible scandles. Grilveau tells Rawski that if they don't get to the playoffs this year the team is gone, going to Kansas. Rawski promises to get the team to the finals, and so does his two new stars.

The year begins with a huge up, 12 wins in a row. Scarlast and Grabner both get 15 points each. But disaster strikes as Richter(the goalie) gets a career ending injury. The backup can't handle the pressure so they have to resort to a 42 year old goalie from the minors who played on the team in the first season named Cosev. Surprisingly he gets 2 shutouts in a row. The fans return and the team becomes a contender. But Grabner gets injured and the team begins to falter. Waynes goes unsigned until the middle of the season when he pleas to join the team again as he has thought about his ignorance and promises to change. Waynes gets signed again and the team goes on to get into the 7th position of the playoffs. But Grilveau sells the team to a different market anyway as he lost way to much money even with the new fan base, it's too little and too soon. The team is due to relocate unless the team sells out every playoff game until the end of the playoffs, and they need to atleast play 10 home games to break even.

Grabner gets better, and the team plays it risky and purposely gets 3 home games in the first round. Unfortunately, they play against the cup contenders the next round. The teams main defender gets in an altercation that causes some incredibly bad publicity and gives him a 12 game suspension. The team becomes down 3-0. but they play 3 really close games and win the last one in triple overtime.

They get to the conferance finals where they bring it to game 7 where the last game is won with a penalty shot goal by the opponents team. Grilveau sets out a plan to get the team to stay and Rawski wins the best coaching award.
