skytrain suggestions

I sent an email to translink of suggestions of what i'd like to see come out of this toll hike.

Hello, I'm Cody Bisson and I've been hearing non stop about sending in any suggestions for translink services before the tolls are raised, so I've decided to voice my opinion and make some suggestions for some things that I believe should be changed in the translink services.

1.Restrict bicycles from the busier routes where the bus lane are shared during peak hours. Bicycle traffic is a major slowdown and a major safety concern for all bus traffic, and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that cyclists should not be using the bus specific lane during rush hour. Broadway from mcdonald to nanaimo should be restricted during 3-6. 10th street runs parallel and and is a very adequate substitute for cyclists In fact, it's faster because there's half as many lights. I also believe hastings should have a cyclist restriction as well. Especially the east side corridor where bus traffic is very heavy during rush hour. I also think that main street should be restricted from terminal all the way to 18th(When the restricted parking stops.) This is probably the worst section because cyclists struggle to make it up the hill and the traffic is often too busy for the buses to pass. And there's a very adequate bike street two blocks down(ontario). Cyclists might not obey the restrictions, but if they were in place traffic can show their frustration against the cyclists who are breaking the law without getting into a reasonable dispute.

2.More Express buses. I don't take the bus a lot, but when I do my major dislike is the time it takes up every stop the bus makes. I like taking the 99 because it gets me to the general area I need to get to in a hurry instead of stopping at every second street. I believe every busy stretch should have an express bus that stops at any major intersections where there might be a crossing section for bus routes. My greatest example would be a main street express bus that would only stop at broadway-king edward-30th area-41st-57th-and marine drive.

3.Extended night buses for most major routes. I was very upset when I seen that a supposed "Night bus" stopped running at 2a.m from metro town. I ended up stranded and had to walk halfway before giving up and catching a cab. I also work early in the morning and if a night bus existed in my neighborhood and went to where I worked I'd definitely take it over using my car everyday. Now obviously, it might not be worth putting another bus on the road when only a few people might use it. So this isn't a major concern of mine.

4.Televisions that show the news on buses, skytrains and the seabus. I noticed that there are some tv's on skytrain stops, but they often only show 3 or four slides. It would be nice to see a full broadcast on a 45 minute skytrain ride to surrey or on a lengthy bus ride. It could possibly be involved with university students studying in journalism, radio and entertainment thus making it cheaper to make and giving students an opportunity to make their own little news show. lcd tv's are cheaper then dirt nowadays and you could fit them in the corners of skytrains and on buses, and actually use the tv's in the seabuses.

5.Extended skytrain hours on weekends. I believe a lot of people use the excuse of the skytrain closing early to drive downtown to go partying. But then they try and drive home and obviously, it never turns out well. If the skytrain is open when the bars close, then more people will use that is an option to get home instead of using their car or a taxi. Obviously the police presence would need to be there which could bring up costs, but for that 1 hour period of the bar closing the skytrains would still be busy(on weekends and big events)

6.Short term trip costs. Last night i was exhausted from cycling so I took the skytrain home from downtown to king edward. A 15 minute trip... When i got off I felt like I wasted the rest of my skytrain expiration time so I threw it on the street hoping someone would picked it up. I'm fully aware that it's illegal(although I don't see why it's illegal, It's a form of charity from my perspective). But I paid 2.50 and I didn't feel like I got the most out of it. I suggest you make a short term ticket, meant for short trips. Kind of like a one way ticket. It would expire after 20 minutes and cost about 1.75-2.00. I know some people who work within that distance of a bus ride would love to pay 2.00 instead of 2.75. It really adds up in someones transportation budget when they have to pay 6$ a day to get to and from work when they only live 10-20 blocks away. This is one of my biggest pet peeves is that with this hike in the tolls/the port mann being a toll bridge, the gas tax, and with the rising living costs, it will become equally as difficult to take public transportation living out of town as it would to simply live in town and close to work.

7.Instal those friggen turn stiles already!? When are they coming in? Why weren't they there when you opened the canada line? The honor system is such a ridiculous and unsuccessful tactic. Some people feel robbed when they buy a ticket for the skytrain and don't get checked. So they end up doing it over and over again. Turnstiles=everyone paying.

I'm done. Hopefully I provided some sort of insight, and hopefully a real employee of translink replies to this with some sort of retort. My biggest requests are 4 and 5. 6 would need some test trials and I don't think it's a major concern for everyone(a trip to surrey and back after 6p.m for 2.75 is incredibly reasonable. But a trip from surrey to burnaby every morning for 4.00 both ways is pretty difficult to cope with. ) I respect and appreciate the services you provide, and I hope they improve for the better. I've witnessed how difficult it is to run the buses smoothly, and I respect the bus drivers for their ability to deal with traffic and dealing with customers. I hope they are paid well to do their trade.

My little spider buddy

today i was at work and i delivered to a house in kerrisdale for a client called Babylicious. I knocked on the door, and while I waited I looked around the door at the terrible paint job done to it and noticed a holy shit huge spider in the corner of the entrance. I was very frightened by this behemoth, So I knocked on the door and stood as far away from the spider as possible. Miss babylicious didnt answer so I put the items in the backyard and came back to the front door to put the invoice in the mailbox. While reaching in my pocket for a pen I realized I had a large ziplock bag that I had for a bunch of change that I brought to the bank earlier(27.50$ in pennies and dimes returned ahhh yea). So i took the ziplock bag and carefully knocked the spider out of its web. It fell in the bag with ease and I locked that shit up and continued with my deliveries.

After my shift was done and I had shown all my coworkers my amazing trapping skills, I decided to take my new spider buddy home with me as a pet. I looked in the bag and he looked very sad. He tried spinning a web but the ziplock bag was too soft and his web was destroyed, so he rolled up in a ball and layed sombre. I poked him through the bag and seen that he still had some life in him so i knew he could still make the ride home. I brought him in my car and thought of what I could do with him.. I couldn't expect this poor feller to live in my room without having free roam. And if he had free roam, he would probably try and crawl down my mouth like every other spider in existance(according to magazine articles, the average person eats 3 spiders while they sleep a week). So I let the fat basterd go in the parking lot. But While I said my good byes and apoligized, he just sat there laying in a semi ball stance. He was giving me the silent treatment. Then It came to my mind that i took him away from his home, and his 600000 children and brought him all the way across town to an unknown land...
I feel kinda bad about it...

Prospecters Island(part1)

Shane Mcmiller is a 30 year old hunter and prospector living in the boom mining town of Barkerville during it's decline. After another failed day of trying to find gold in areas unexplored by others he goes to a tavern with his Labrador Carter. While at the tavern he hears of a mysterious island in the northern pacific that holds a massive gold deposit, but it's in such a desolate area that no one has gotten a hold of it, everyone who tries to get their die on the way or gets seriously injured by the waves. The guy who tells him this came up with his father on the first pack train to Barkerville. The older prospecter tells him how to get there, but again warns him that it's a death trap.

Shane and Carter ride down the fraser on a canoe to New West minister where they gear up and meet up with his fiance Jesse Racton. Shane tells Jesse where he is going and that he will be back in 2 months and they will get married wealthy instead of struggling to get by. Jesse wants to go with him but Shane doesn't want to put her in a dangerous situation as she is currently pregnant. Jesse finally convinces shane to take her with him. Together they set out for a 10 day canoe trip to the desolate island in the georgia strait. During the 10 day trip they never see a soul, the sea is also oddly calm. They catch fish to survive and sleep on the shore among the fjords. On the 10th day he finally sees what the island that the older prospector told him about. They get onto the island and Carter already gets away from them. Shane chases Carter deep into the island until they reach a very creepy ghost town, Jesse struggles to get the canoe ashore. In the town are 4 small cabins, a church and a general store, and an unfinished mining facility. all of them have been empty for about 20 odd years. shane inspects the general store, everything is still on the shelf and money from 1855 is in the register. He goes to the church and the spiders have taken it over. The cabins are all fully furnished but are covered in dust. Shane and Jesse decide to stay in one of the cabins for the night and search the island the next day. Carter keeps waking up and barking all through the night, shane is getting tired of it so he puts him outside on a leash. He continues to bark until shane finally comes outside in a heated rage. when he gets outside he sees the small town is engulfed with a very creepy fog. Carter whimpers then goes inside the house. While going a spooky silhouette walks through the fog.

The next day Shane and Jesse are woken up by some creaking in his cabin, Shane searches the place and doesn't find anything. Carter is crying in the corner. Shane finally gets Carter to come out and explore the island with him while Jesse cleans the cabin up. It starts to snow as Shane explores the fairly mountainous rainforest island. He inspects the rocks in the mountain and indeed they have plenty of gold in them. shane gets excited and rushes back to the cabin, he is stopped when he and Carter hear some mysterious rustling sounds in the trees. Shane dismisses the trees and rushes to jesse to tell her about the gold. Shane mines for the next 3 days and gets a large amount of gold while Jesse experiences paranormal activity in the house and tries to remain calm about it. After each instance Shane dismisses her and focuses on the gold. Jesse finally freaks out at Shane and he finally agrees to load of the gold on the boat and get off the island. They go to the ocean to see the tide has dropped substantially and there is no longer a shore for them to lift off from. There's 2 meter jagged cliffs on all ends of the island, and within those cliffs are gold. They go around the entire island until they find the remains of a half sunken steamship that is getting battered by the viscous sea. Realizing they might be stuck on the island Jesse and Shane go back to the village and witness a large amount of footsteps in the snow which creeps them out. They get back to the town freightened to witness the lights in the general store are on and that footprints are all through the town. They witness as a large pair of invisible boots sink into the deep snow and follow them as try try and get away. They run and hide near the edge of the island. From the distance they can hear the church bells ringing and sound of picks hitting rocks. They then hear whispers from the cliffs telling them to come to them. Jesse and Shane are freaking out at this point. Carter has been barking the entire time, the whispers tell them to shut the dog up or it will be killed. Shane yells at the whispering man, but the footprints in the snow near so the whispering man shoots Carter dead. Shane turns around to see the whispering man, who is an old slim man with a shotgun hiding behind a rock near the edge of the cliff. Shane yells at him and chases him. The old man jumps off the cliff and Shane comes to a halt when he gets there. He sees that there is a landing below and Shane follows.

shockingly, I will still not end this story... One of these days.

The upstairs

This script idea is based off my current living situations and problems with my living situation...

Logline:A young professional bonds with his elderly landlady as she is abused by her obese crackhead son.

Thomas is a recent graduate from an engineering course. He moves into a small two basement suite with an old friend to save money until he pays off his loan. The house is in a really good neighborhood close to where he will be working. Unfortunately the first night he has trouble sleeping as the landlady living upstairs and her son have very loud arguments which often sound violent. Thomas barely gets any sleep that night so he goes to work the next day and discusses the problem with his co worker Gary. Gary tells him to stay the hell away from it and drink some tea or take sleeping pills if it happens every night. a couple nights later the two upstairs start fighting again. Thomas already took some sleeping pills but they don't work, so Thomas goes to the kitchen and dials 99 but his roomate, Henry, a very silent loner pothead tells him not to. If he calls the cops, nothing is going to happen. She's going to say nothing is happening and the yelling was over the dishes or something mundane like that. It's best to stay out of it, or smoke a shitload of weed and enjoy it. Thomas tries to go to sleep but he fails to get a decent nights rest and shows up an hour late for work.

At work Thomas discusses with Gary is house issues. Thomas doesn't want to move and he's reluctant to get involved, but feels kind of sorry for the old lady because it seems she is getting abused by her son. Gary suggests that if he really want to be a white knight, then he should talk to her about it. So that day Thomas goes and asks what is up with all the screaming. She(Theresa) makes up excuses, which Thomas shoots down when he quotes things he over heard. she finally comes out and says she is having issues with her son. Thomas is reluctant to ask why but asks if they could keep the volume down as he needs to work early. That night they fight, and he believes it's over him. He again does not get a good night sleep. After a day where he ingested 4 cups of coffee he comes home and sees the loser son has parked his car like a fucking idiot and blocked both spots. Thomas goes to the door and talks to Theresa and again asks them to keep quiet. Theresa apologizes sympathetically, but when Thomas asks if her son can move his vehicle the son comes into the picture. The son(Roy) is an over weight 6 foot 3 asshole crackhead. He instantly tells Thomas to fuck off and mind his own business. Thomas is pretty pissed off from this whole situation so he yells at Thomas about the whole incident. Roy gets pissed and threatens to beat him up, Theresa manages to sustain Thomas and gets him to go to his basement suite and promises him the arguing will be minimal. That night everything is silent. The next day Thomas has a decent day at work and meets a young flag girl named Randia. He talks with Randia and they get along quite well. At the end of the day Thomas asks Randia out on a date sometime next week. Randia accepts. That night when Thomas gets home he meets Theresa and meets her elderly dog. Theresa and Thomas talk and get to know each other. They both came from similiar pasts, both grew up in London at some point, both moved to Canada because of Family, and both stayed because of they loved it here. They also enjoy movies and they setup a movie day later that day.

I'm tired so I'll finish this off later off. Just so you know, this is probably the 1st act turning point.

100th post

Thought of this idea after viewing a bunch of different natural hidden wonders in the world. Would be great to set the backdrop of this story in a mythical place similar to iceland.

-3 warriors with different motives set out to find a new land for their famine and war torn village on the other side of a hostile island territory.

Main star-He's Doing this to help save his village, he's slightly crippled from battle, but he's looked up upon by the lower class of the village. Played by some raw older actor. Sean Bean or Gary Oldman?

Second warrior-He's the kings son and he wants to claim the throne for his own, so he sets off on this journey so he can take all the glory for finding a new place to settle and rule the new town. He's a spoiled brat that has never seen battle so he's gonna have a tough time. Probably played a young guy, someone like guy pearce.

Third warrior-This dude is a spy from the hostile territory. He's been in the town for a couple of years and he's fought a lot of battles for the community, but he's that asshole who always tips off the enemies on the plans of the community. He would be played by some uknown but really crazy fucker.

The king would be played by an uknown or a really old actor like Geoffrey rush or something.

The Peaks

It's my dream to make a hockey film. It's rare to see a hockey feature film that's serious and true to the sport. I want to make that film. My original idea was to write a script about how the jets came back and became insignificant within a decade and struggle to keep the franchise only to have someone save it. Unfortunately, the jets are already back. so i'm going to create my own team.

The Seattle Peaks. Created around the same time as the thrashers. The first couple years were prosperous, but a very irresponsible general manager made a lot of really stupid moves and the team never really had a star except for one, their captain from the beginning until 2 years before this story starts. Jason Rawski.

Jason Rawski is a lot like Trevor Linden. He wasn't the best at the sport, but he had a lot of heart and gave it his all in every game. The general manager threw a lot of money towards old rusty stars to try and bring star power to the team, but similar to the ranger sydrome, the stars faded and died in Seattle. Rawski never registered more then 70 points and always had a minus rating. But he was the only player to stick with the team for more then 3 years(stuck with it for 7 years.) He never got along with the gm and owner Andrew Gilbrovski, because Andrew knew fuck all about sports but he had a shit ton of money and invested it in these fading stars. On his 7th season Rawski got hit from behind into the boards and broke his neck and suffered a concussion. He wasn't resigned that year and retired. He became a coach for a minor league team.

Andrew Gilbrovski created the team in 2000 because he loved hockey and wanted to see it thrive in Seattle. When he got the team he traded away the first 3 years worth of draft picks for a high scoring incredibly expensive winger named Johnathan Grilveau who ended up breaking a leg in the first season and never recovering. Gilbrovski sunk tons of money on terrible decisions, signing goalie Trevor Richter to a 8 year 70 million year deal after 2 incredibly meh seasons. Trevor Richter is still the goalie, now 34. Hasn't won more then 30 games in a season and he has issues with his foot. Gilbrovski lost more then 200 million on the team and finally sold it to Grilveau.

So here is where we start the film, Grilveau just bought the team which just had one of the worst seasons ever in NHL history(12-65-5) Unfortunatly they traded away their first round pick for Colin Waynes. A calder winning center who won 2 cups with two different teams but failed to connect with the Peaks because of his cockyness. Grilveau interviews a few gm's and hears their pitches to fix the team, all of which are financial based and have a lot to do with spending to the cap, which Grilveau isn't willing to do. They go to Rawski and he gives them a simple pitch, let him be the coach and manage the team. Rawski's first move is to gather a group of aggressive young forwards(Chris Neil, Sean Avery, Brian Boyle)and and an experienced shut down defenseman(Micheal Rosival). He then switches the team from a defensive minded team to an aggressive offensive team.

At the start of the season Rawski makes a lot of big changes, he takes away the captaincy from Colin Waynes and gives it to the second longest player on the team(Rich Peverly). Colin Waynes makes some big whiney scenes until he gets cheap shotted and complains about it and the entire team turns their backs on him. Waynes then requests a trade and Rawski puts him on the trading block, but no one wants him. Half way through the season Rawski sees an opportunity to win with one of his players in the minors, someone just as good lemeiux, in fact they are related. Gabriel Scarlast managed to bring his team(that rawski coached) to the memorial cup the year before. Scarlast gets drafted this next season so Rawski decides to make the team lose on purpose. He also gets word from a young star that played with the peaks with Rawski until Gillbrovski traded him for another crap star(Micheal Grabner). At the halfway point the team is 10th in their conferance and the playoffs could possibly happen, but Rawski wants this team to win in the longterm so he proposes to the team that they lose on purpose so they can get the first round pick in Scarlast.

The small amount of fans left get annoyed with the play, and Grilveau gets mad at the idea as he loses a shitload of money. The last place position becomes determined by the last game, which is against the 29th place team. The team loses in an epic and slightly comedic fashion and in the offseason they get Grabner and Scarlast. They don't sign Waynes, but nobody else does either because of his poor play and terrible scandles. Grilveau tells Rawski that if they don't get to the playoffs this year the team is gone, going to Kansas. Rawski promises to get the team to the finals, and so does his two new stars.

The year begins with a huge up, 12 wins in a row. Scarlast and Grabner both get 15 points each. But disaster strikes as Richter(the goalie) gets a career ending injury. The backup can't handle the pressure so they have to resort to a 42 year old goalie from the minors who played on the team in the first season named Cosev. Surprisingly he gets 2 shutouts in a row. The fans return and the team becomes a contender. But Grabner gets injured and the team begins to falter. Waynes goes unsigned until the middle of the season when he pleas to join the team again as he has thought about his ignorance and promises to change. Waynes gets signed again and the team goes on to get into the 7th position of the playoffs. But Grilveau sells the team to a different market anyway as he lost way to much money even with the new fan base, it's too little and too soon. The team is due to relocate unless the team sells out every playoff game until the end of the playoffs, and they need to atleast play 10 home games to break even.

Grabner gets better, and the team plays it risky and purposely gets 3 home games in the first round. Unfortunately, they play against the cup contenders the next round. The teams main defender gets in an altercation that causes some incredibly bad publicity and gives him a 12 game suspension. The team becomes down 3-0. but they play 3 really close games and win the last one in triple overtime.

They get to the conferance finals where they bring it to game 7 where the last game is won with a penalty shot goal by the opponents team. Grilveau sets out a plan to get the team to stay and Rawski wins the best coaching award.
